As every fortnight, you can take part in a new challenge on the Recalbox Discord. This challenge is open to everyone. The principle is simple: try to achieve the best score on a game drawn at random, often from the arcade catalogue.

🚀 For this fifth challenge of 2025, the game selected is Top Hunter: Roddy & Cathy.

Developed and published by SNK in 1994, this side-scrolling action game puts you in the shoes of Roddy or Cathy, two space bounty hunters tasked with protecting the galaxy from a gang of interstellar pirates. The game features a unique dual-plane mechanic, allowing players to navigate between the foreground and background to avoid enemies or uncover secrets. Playable solo or cooperatively, it offers a rich and dynamic experience.

Originally released on the Neo-Geo MVS arcade terminal, the game was ported to Neo-Geo AES, Neo-Geo CD, and later the Wii Virtual Console. Although it was not a resounding commercial success when it was released, it is now regarded as an undiscovered gem in the Neo-Geo game library, appreciated for its colourful art direction and innovative gameplay.

The game features a variety of environments, from lush forests to volcanic areas, each populated by unique enemies and fearsome bosses. Characters have extendable arms, allowing them to grab and throw enemies or objects, adding a strategic dimension to combat.

As Roddy or Cathy, your aim will be to achieve the highest score in a single credit.
The challenge runs from 15 to 28 April, midnight. You can try as many times as you like.

To ensure a fair challenge:

• The score must be completed in a single credit, without save state, rewind, cheats, or auto-fire (unless provided for in the game).

The challenge is all about discovering games, sharing tips and, of course, having fun, all in a competitive spirit that's always welcome!

The winner will receive a game key (GOG, Steam, etc.) to choose from a list of over 80 titles.
